IMDG Code 38-16 – Update 3 – POLYESTER RESIN KIT

Third in this series is new entry UN 3257, POLYESTER RESIN KIT, solid base material.

Polyester Resin Kit was listed as UN Number 3269, packing group II and III in IMDG Code 37-14, which represents only the polyester resin kits containing a base material of class 3, packing group II or III) and an activator (organic peroxide).

The New IMDG Code, 38th amendment, includes polyester resin kits under new UN Number 3527, containing a base material of class 4.1, packing group II or III and an activator (organic peroxide).

Polyester resin kits consist of two components: a base material (either class 3 or class 4.1, packing group II or III) and an activator (organic peroxide). The organic peroxide shall be type D, E, or F, not requiring temperature control. The packing group shall be II or III, according to the criteria of either class 3 or class 4.1, as appropriate, applied to the base material. The quantity limit shown in column 7a of the Dangerous Goods List of chapter 3.2 of IMDG Code applies to the base material.

Chemical kits, first aid kits and polyester resin kits containing dangerous substances in inner packagings which do not exceed the quantity limits for excepted quantities applicable to individual substances as specified in column 7b of the Dangerous Goods List may be transported in accordance with chapter 3.5 of IMDG Code. Class 5.2 substances, although not individually authorized as excepted quantities in the Dangerous Goods List, are authorized in such kits and are assigned code E2 (see 3.5.1.2 of IMDG Code 38-16).
