We are releasing a series of checklists for compliance to IMDG Code 42nd amendment.

The first in the series is Checklist for Marking and Labelling of Packages, IBCs and Large Packaging.

This checklist covers the requirements for marking (e.g., UN number, proper shipping name, special marks) and labelling (hazard labels) of packages, IBCs, and large packagings containing dangerous goods, based on Chapters 5.1 (general provisions) and 5.2 (specific marking and labelling). This includes provisions for overpacks, unit loads, empty uncleaned packagings, mixed packing, and class-specific requirements. Always cross-reference with the full IMDG Code, as exemptions or special provisions may apply based on substance, class, or competent authority approvals. Ensure all marks and labels are durable, visible, legible, and identifiable after at least three months’ immersion in the sea (5.2.1.2.2, 5.2.2.2.1.7).
