Tianjin Blast: China Jails 49

The Courts in north China’s Tianjin Municipality has pronounced their verdicts on the devastating blast at dangerous goods storage area in Tianjin port in August 2015 which resulted in 165 deaths, 8 missing, and 798 injured, damage to 304 buildings, 12,428 cars, and 7,533 containers and total loss of 1.01 billion U.S. dollars.

The courts found Yu Xuewei, chairman of Ruihai Logistics guilty of bribing, illegal storage of hazardous materials, illegal business operations and was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve. Five others of Ruihai Logistics were sentenced to between three and 10 years in prison. Eleven people involved in safety evaluation and providing counterfeit safety reports were jailed. Twenty-five officials of Tianjin Municipal Transport Commission were sentenced to prison term from three to seven years.
