A visitor to this site enquired “MFAG number of Isopropyl alcohol”

The revised text of Medical First Aid Guide for use in accidents Involving dangerous Goods (MFAG), was adopted by maritime safety committee on 20th May 1998. When reformatted IMDG Code (2 volumes) 30th amendment came in the year 2000 MFAG table numbers were removed from dangerous goods list and is included in the supplement to IMDG Code.

Below is the image of IMDG Code 27th amendment of 1994 in which we can see EmS numbers and MFAG table numbers.

For the convenience of users, and to ensure rapid access to the recommendations in an emergency, MFAG is divided into sections which are grouped to facilitate a three-step approach.

MFAG in the supplement of IMDG Code has a flowchart guiding the users for actions to be taken depending on the symptoms of the person exposed to dangerous goods and the situation. This can only be used by trained ships’ crew who can also avail Radio Medical Advice from shore doctors.

MFAG has various flowcharts. Depending on the answers to questions as YES or NO these flowcharts direct the reader to certain tables
  • Table 1 will assist with advice on how to rescue a casualty.
  • Table 2 will assist with Cardio – Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Table 3 will assist with oxygen administration and controlled ventilation.
  • Table 4 will assist with Chemical Induced Disturbance of Consciousness.
  • Total 20 tables and appendices
  • Appendix 15 – list of medicines and equipment to be carried on board ships carrying dangerous goods.

Similarly, numerical EmS codes were redrafted and published as F & S codes for fire and spillage from 31st amendment of IMDG Code.

20 years ago, before 30th amendment, shippers had to mention MFAG table number and IMDG Code page numbers in dangerous goods declaration. Ever since IMDG Code 30th amendment came in the year 2000 there is no need to write either IMDG Code page number or MFAG table numbers in dangerous goods declaration.

But we can still see some dangerous goods declarations containing MFAG table numbers or IMDG Code page numbers which is from 28th or 29th amendment of IMDG Code.

Hello Shippers! You need not specify EmS, IMDG Code page number or MFAG table numbers in dangerous goods declarations.
