Misdeclared or undeclared dangerous goods has become a major threat to container ships in the recent past. Shipping lines took their own initiative to detect and eliminate this threat by developing software looking for “key words” which may lead to detecting suspicious bookings/cargo details. See Cargo Petrol of Hapag Lloyd. Lines also announced heavy penalty if they detect any misdeclared dangerous goods. Maersk joined hands with National Cargo Bureau (NCB) for inspection of containers .

What do you think are the factors which lead to non declaration or misdeclaration of dangerous goods? How can we find a solution to this?
