Certain dangerous goods require mechanical ventilation in under deck cargo spaces. Criteria to load under deck cargo spaces is

  1. Must be permitted by IMDG Code stowage categories.
  2. Must be permitted by vessel’s Document of Compliance (DOC)

  • Class 2.1
  • Class 3 flashpoint <23 Deg C
  • Class 4.3
  • Class 6.1 with subsidiary hazard class 3
  • Class 8 with subsidiary hazard of class 3
  • Goods having stowage requirement requiring mechanical ventilation in column 16a of dangerous goods list in chapter 3.2

Bulk container

When cargo require ventilation in bulk containers it can be achieved by natural convection, by openings, or by mechanical, fan. If cargo is flammable or the vapours are flammable the fan must a type approved as not to be a source of ignition.
