Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, India, has proposed a new rule which will come into effect from 1st October 2021 for new models and 1st October 2022 for existing models.

Tyres must meet the requirements of rolling resistances, whet grip and rolling sound emissions as stipulated Automotive Industry Standards (AIS) 142:2019, stage-II.

Rolling sound emission means the sound emitted from the contact between the tyres in motion and the road surface”. Rolling resistance will improve the fuel efficiency and wet trip will better perform braking under wet conditions.  Adhesion on wet surfaces” means the relative braking performance, on a wet surface, of a test vehicle equipped with the candidate tyre in comparison to that of the same test vehicle equipped with a reference tyre”.

Any objection or suggestions to this draft rule should be sent to comments-morth@gov.in
