Most container fires and dangerous goods incidents trace back to the same failures: cargo mis-declared at booking, packed without understanding segregation, or not secured properly in the CTU. The IMDG Code already covers all of this — the problem is that few people making these decisions have ever had the Code translated into something they can understand easily.

Book It Right and Pack It Tight, jointly published by the UK P&I Club and TT Club, exists to close that gap. It gives everyone handling a DG consignment — shipper, forwarder, packer, booking clerk, and more — a plain-language overview of their duties under the Code. The current edition has been revised for IMDG Amendment 42-24, mandatory from 1 January 2026.

A guide read by a compliance manager changes a policy document. The same guide handed to the person filling out the booking form or packing the container changes what happens to the cargo.
