Dangerous goods packed in limited quantities must meet all the provisions applicable in chapter 3.4 of IMDG Code. IMDG Code section 3.4.5.1 “Marking and Placarding” states “Except for air transport, packages containing dangerous goods in limited quantities shall bear the mark shown below”.
When a dangerous goods which is a marine pollutant is packed and shipped as limited quantities the package must bear the LQ mark and need not bear the class label and marine pollutant mark.
If dangerous goods in limited quantities are placed in an overpack or unit load and LQ mark is not visible, then the overpack or the unit load must be marked with the LQ mark. In addition, the overpack or unit load must be marked with the word “OVERPACK” unless the LQ marks of the packages are visible. The lettering of the “OVERPACK” mark must be at
least 12 mm high.
Limited quantity packages meeting the provisions of ICAO Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air is acceptable under IMDG Code (refer ICAO TI/ IATA DGR for full information).
