Sometimes there is a confusion as to what marks, labels and placards are required for lithium batteries shipments by sea.

Mark to include ‘UN 3090’ for lithium metal cells or batteries – ‘UN 3480’ for lithium ion cells or batteries.   For cells batteries contained in, or packed with, equipment, ‘UN 3091’ or ‘UN 3481’   Where a package contains lithium cells or batteries assigned to different UN numbers, all applicable UN numbers shall be indicated on one or more marks. Include telephone number for additional information
