By hearing ‘limited quantities’ many of us think there are no segregation rules applicable. Let us remove the illusion that dangerous goods in limited quantities does not have any segregation rules.

Segregation for dangerous goods in limited quantities

LQ package with other dangerous goods

a) Class 1.4S in limited quantities must not be stowed in the same compartment, hold or CTU with Class 1 compatibility groups A & L.

b) No segregation applicable with dangerous goods in limited quantities with other dangerous goods except as mentioned in point ‘a” above.

Same outer packaging

Different dangerous substances in limited quantities must not be packed in the same outer packaging If they cannot comply with 7.2.6.1 of IMDG Code and if any segregation rules are applicable as per chapter 7.2, including the segregation provisions in column 16b of dangerous goods list.

However, Substances in packing group III within the same class may be packed together subject to compliance with 7.2.6.1 of IMDG Code. Transport document of such LQ shipment must have the statement “Transport in accordance with 3.4.4.1.2 of the IMDG Code”.
