Shipper’s declaration is the most vital hazard communication in transport of dangerous goods by sea. Basis of information provided in shipper’s declaration carrier prepares dangerous goods stowage plan, manifest and the Master initiates emergency response action in case of fire or spillage.

IMDG Code require those who “prepare transport documents for dangerous goods” to be trained in below aspects

  • Transport document
  • Container/vehicle packing certificate
  • Competent authorities’ approval
  • Waste transport documentation
  • Special documentation, where appropriate

There are many responsibilities for those who load/unload cargo transport units. IMDG Code requires packers to be trained in below aspects

  • Documentation
  • Classes
  • Marking, labelling and placarding
  • Stowage requirements, where applicable
  • Segregation requirements
  • Cargo securing requirements (as contained in the CTU Code)
  • Emergency response procedures
  • First aid measures
  • CSC requirements
  • Safe handling procedures

This checklist may be used for verifying dangerous goods declaration & container packing certificate against mandatory provisions of IMDG Code, chapter 5.4, for containerized and non-containerized dangerous goods.
