Mostly cultivated in Central Asia and Middle East pistachio is an edible nut which can be eaten whole, roasted or added to confections.

Some do ask whether pistachios are dangerous goods or not. IMDG Code does not mention pistachios by name.

However, high oil content in pistachio encourages it to have a tendency to self-heat. Large quantity of cargo when experience decomposition of fat may result in self-heating and cargo fire. A nature of class 4.2. Pistachio must not be loaded with fibrous materials which may promote self-heating and spontaneous combustion.
