IMDG Code 39-18 published in 2018 may be used partly or wholly during 2019 and will become mandatory from 1st January 2020. 39th Amendment has incorpoerated 7t revised edition of Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling, one of the changes is display of GHS pictograms not required by IMDG Code on dangerous goods packages

GHS Pictograms not required by IMDG Code must not be displayed independently but must only appear as part of complete GHS Label.

The GHS hazard pictograms, signal word and hazard statements should be displayed together on the GHS label.

According to GHS 7th Revised Edition when a package displays IMDG CODE label(s) GHS pictogram of same hazard should not be applied.

GHS Pictograms not required by transport regulations should not be affixed on freight containers, road vehicles or railway wagons/tanks.

  • Class 2.1 flammable gases and class 3 flammable liquid which displays class 2 flammable label and class 3 flammable label no need to display GHS pictogram GHS02.
  • Class 6.1 toxic substances which display class 6.1 toxic label no need to display GHS pictogram GHS06.
  • Class 8 corrosive substances which display class 8 corrosive label no need to display GHS pictogram GHS05.
