1 · What powers the vehicle?
Hybrid note: a vehicle with both an engine and an installed battery still ships under the UN 3166 entry for its engine type — the battery-only entries (3171 / 3556 / 3557 / 3558) apply only when the battery is the sole power source. Bi-fuel note: a vehicle with both a liquid and a gas internal combustion engine is assigned to the gas variant of UN 3166 (SP 388) — pick “Flammable gas engine” above.
2 · Check the safety conditions
SP 961 doesn’t provide a battery-condition-only exemption for lithium-ion or lithium-metal vehicles — the stowage-location route above is the only path to full exemption. Otherwise this ships under SP 962, with the battery meeting SP 388’s testing requirements and protected from damage, short-circuit and accidental activation.
