Second wave of COVID-19 has caught India unprepared and gasping for breath. Acute shortage of oxygen has caused many deaths in various hospitals. Hospital administration, doctors and relatives of the patients are pleading to state and central governments, courts and through social media. Many hospitals have stopped taking in patients who require administration of oxygen due to lack of same.

Later at Batra Hospital 12 patients including a doctor lost their lives due to non availability of oxygen

Various countries are supplying oxygen concentrators, T75 tanks and road tankers to tackle the situation. According to Indian Foreign Secretary 40 countries have pledge support which include 550 oxygen generating plants.

According to path.org calculation based on WHO’s calculation methods and number of confirmed COVID-19 patients India needs 15,055,935 Cm3 or 2,150,848 cylinders (7m3) of oxygen.

Indian Navy has launched Operation Samudra Setu-II to augment the ongoing national mission for meeting the Oxygen requirements. The Indian Naval ships will undertake shipment of Oxygen filled containers and other medical equipment in support of India’s fight against COVID-19
